Counselling with me

Hi, I've been a clinical counsellor, individual, couples, and
group therapist for over thirty years, and have a bustling, very fulfilling practice with couples, individual therapy. and clinical supervision groups. I'm warm and approachable, very present, with an easy manner, a ready smile, and calm, undistracted focus on you -- what you're going through, what you're experiencing, and what you need.

I really know how to help people, and quickly! It's an unusual thing for a therapist to say, but it's true, and it's something the people I work with really appreciate about me. I quickly hone in on what needs to be addressed, and how to help and improve the situation.

I've been lead therapist on a large urban medical team, a
bereavement counsellor with hospice, (something that I believe every therapist should do at some point in their career...)  a
counsellor with IV drug users in Spanish Harlem, New York at the height of the AIDS crisis, and have had a
significant component of my practice including
marginalized, and very traumatized people. I trained in New York City in radical and feminist psychotherapy that
included a strong intersectional, social-critical component.

In recent years, I have been incorporating the many important discoveries and skills that comprise Dialectical Behaviour
Therapy, Internal Family Systems and trauma therapy, and I incorporate coaching with counselling. I have considerable trauma in my own personal history, and I derive personal fulfillment helping traumatized people find peace, love, acceptance and functionaltiy in their lives.

Lately, too, I've been doing more couples and relationship counselling than ever before, and I find it particularly rewarding work, helping couples love each other better, work out problems -- some of them very painful problems -- and rediscover love and understanding with each other.

I've been supervising and developing therapists
with many levels of experience since 2007. I run two weekly drop-in supervision groups which are warm, helpful, informative environments where clinicians of all ages and stages of their career improve their clinical skills and deepen their understanding of the amazing work we do.  I love
helping clinicians with their uncertainties, build their clinical confidence, and learn how to manage their own personal judgments and triggers, and ethical questions while honing their clinical technique. I avoid shoptalk and jargon, and
communicate clearly and informally with an
engaged, funny, focused presence.
